November, 2023 – repeat post!

Hello, hello! I’ll keep this update brief-ish, but felt it necessary to share that I am officially 2/3 of the way through getting my head zapped! Today was day 20 (on the 21st – so close to 20 on 20!), so I only have 10 sessions remaining.

As much as I’ve adored my regular radiation techs (shout out to Stacy, Sharon, Vince and my fellow Lebanese lady “Lyla,” – quotations because I can’t pronounce her actual name), the check in folks who remember me daily (referring to me as “Kornhaas spelt with a “K” like the band Korn”), and the super ZEN-filled drive to & from Westchester, it will be incredible to know that I’ve put this step behind me and get a FOUR week break.

With regard to my mental/physical/emotional state – I’d honestly say not much has changed. Physically, I have had a couple hiccups with regard to leftover symptoms of RSV (because of course I caught that) and all that really meant was more time in a medical facility than I’d prefer. Mentally / emotionally, I tend to flow more than I ebb (flow is the “I’m okay” part, right??), and thankfully have a MASSIVE support system that clocks in on the sad F this Shi* days.

Other than that, I’m experiencing:

  • a bit of balding over my left ear that is honestly only visible when I pull my hair back
  • some hearing loss in my left ear (no, I’m not actually losing my hearing, it’s most likely swelling or inflammation because of the location they’re zapping being nearby)
  • a very new inability to taste salt – which is the first thing I add to every meal, so that’s fun leading up to Thanksgiving
  • morning sickness! No joke, I’ve spent enough time pregnant to recognize that issue and it is most certainly a more recent symptom (but thankfully, as women who have had children know, there are wonderful pills to help manage that)

As we continue to move forward, we’ve got a jam-packed December with Christmas tree selection, decorating, visiting Santa on the Polar Express, celebrating our daughter Leila’s 4th birthday (!!!!!!), and obviously spending time with family for Christmas. My break could not have been timed any better.

I hope everyone has a fabulous, simple, drama-free Thanksgiving – enjoy the time eating yummy food, celebrating with whoever your people are, and remember to shout “Go Cowboys!” during the game.
